Some emphasize this special moment with red and white flags. Others focus on relaxation.- The word MAYDAY (MAJÓWKA in polish) used to mean a wreath made of a young fir tree, decorated with ribbons, which a boy would put in front of the house of a chosen girl. This wreath was usually put up in May - on the night before the first or third of May, or before the first Sunday of May, or on the night of Pentecost.Over time, the name also came to mean a trip out of town, not necessarily in May, but always in the warm seasons - spring or summer, often combined with fun or dancing.

I’ve just learnt that today is the I Hate Coriander Day.International I Hate Coriander Day originated in 2013, with the inception of a Facebook group entitled simply ‘I Hate Coriander.’ The sole purpose of creating the group was so that like-minded people could get together and express their utter disdain for the herb through messages and posts of all sorts. And before you laugh it off as an insignificant group, note that the number of members on it has risen to a following of more than 200,000. Such was the popularity of the group that there is even ‘I Hate Coriander’ merchandise being sold on the group. Did you know that KFC on Christmas Eve is a must have in Japan? 🎄🍗In Japan, they used to eat Karaage chicken on Christmas Eve, which was very similar in taste to KFC chicken. KFC managers used a great marketing ploy which resulted in them releasing festive buckets of Kentucky chicken on Christmas Eve. Every year, a costumed Lieutenant Sanders dressed as Father Christmas stands in front of each restaurant and Japanese people queue up outside the restaurant to get their bucket. In the Land of the Cherry Blossom, there is a marketing slogan "Christmas is Kentucky".

Where did the Christmas socks come from?

There are many legends surrounding the tradition of Christmas stockings. One tells of Santa Claus giving a gift to the poor in the form of gold coins, which he imperceptibly tucked into their washed stockings hung by the fireplace. It is said that in the 12th century in Francia, nuns visited the poor, offering them socks full of nuts and fruit (mainly mandarins).Today, the tradition is popular in the UK and the USA. On 24 December, children hang the socks on the mantelpiece or by their beds hoping to find presents in them. In exchange for Christmas trinkets, they often leave cookies for Santa and carrots for the reindeer.
